Volunteer Code of Conduct

 

Volunteers are essential to the operation of Peacemaker Project 703 and serving our mission of proactively supporting law enforcement officers and their families through community outreach, reform, and education. 

The purpose of the Volunteer Code of Conduct is to establish standards of behavior expected from Peacemaker Project 703 volunteers along with responsibilities and potential consequences for one’s conduct during the term of service. Volunteers are accountable for their personal and professional conduct as per the terms of this policy. The scope of this Code of Conduct applies to all volunteers.

All volunteers have the right to a respectful and safe environment while volunteering for the Peacemaker Project 703. This organization expects all volunteers to maintain a level of personal conduct that reflects positively on themselves and on the reputation of Peacemaker Project 703.

All volunteers should ensure that they have read and comply with this Code of Conduct.

Volunteers are expected to maintain the highest standards of behavior in the performance of their duties by:

  • Fulfilling their role as outlined in the written volunteer role description

  • Performing their role to the best of their ability in a safe, efficient, and competent manner

  • Following the organization’s policies and procedures

  • Obeying the law

  • Demonstrating honesty, responsibility, and integrity in their behavior

  • Treating others with fairness, equality, dignity, and respect

  • Raising concerns about possible wrongdoing witnessed by the volunteer in the course of the volunteer’s role with Peacemaker Project 703 and reporting to the appropriate personnel

  • Meeting time and task commitments and providing sufficient notice when one will not be available so that alternative arrangements can be made

  • Acting in a way that is in-line with the purpose and values of the organization

  • Observing safety procedures--including any obligations concerning the safety, health and welfare of other people-- in-line with training provided to volunteers, and reporting any health and/or safety concerns

  • Directing any questions regarding Peacemaker Project 703’s policies, procedures, support or supervision to the volunteer’s supervisor

  • Declaring any interests that may conflict with their role or the work of the charity

  • Maintaining confidentiality and exercising caution and care with any documents, material, or devices containing confidential information and at the end of their involvement with Peacemaker Project 703, returning any such documents or material in their possession

  • Seeking authorization before communicating externally on behalf of Peacemaker Project 703

  • Maintaining an appropriate standard of dress and personal hygiene; including but not limited to: pants worn at waist height, appropriate footwear, clean clothes, etc.)

  • Disclosing if this volunteer has been charged with, or convicted of a criminal offence by prosecuting authorities to a Peacemaker Project Executive Board member

 

Volunteers strictly prohibited from:

  • Taking undue advantage of other volunteers, Peacemaker Project board members, services, equipment, resources, or property for personal or third-party gain

  • Using their position to promote their personal, professional, or business interests

  • Defaming the organization (including but not limited to via email, social media and other internet sites, engaging with media)

  • Seeking or accepting any gifts or rewards in the course of their role

  • Engaging in any activity that may cause physical or mental harm or distress to another person (such as verbal abuse, physical abuse, use of firearms or other weaponry, assault, bullying, discrimination or harassment)

  • Discriminating the grounds of gender, civil status, family status, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, or race

  • Being under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication which will affect one's abilities to carry out their duties and responsibilities while volunteering

  • Providing a false or misleading statement, declaration, document, record, or claim in respect of Peacemaker Project 703, its volunteers, members, or contributors

  • Engaging in any activity that may damage property

  • Engaging in illegal activity while volunteering and/or representing the organization

If a volunteer is found to be in breach of the standards outlined in this Code of Conduct or any of Peacemaker Project 703’s other policies and procedures, this may result in the volunteer’s position being terminated. Along with the above stated reasons, it is also in Peacemaker Project 703’s power to terminate a volunteer’s position without cause at any time.

Volunteers acknowledge that no employment relationship is created in the context of their role with Peacemaker Project 703.

Peacemaker Project 703 is committed to and promotes diversity and inclusivity within its organization. The Peacemaker Project 703 organization believes that every single person has the right to volunteer in a safe and welcoming environment. In order to ensure a truly inclusive environment, we expect all volunteers to treat other volunteers, participants, staff, community members, first responders, and partners with respect. Further, Peacemaker Project 703 does not discriminate against anyone on the basis of gender or gender orientation, sex, sexual orientation, race, color, religion, age, national or ethnic origin, or disability.
